Innovation, Commitment & Optimism In Our New Container

Buencafé brings not only the best coffee, but also good news.
Based on our values and commitment to the environment, we have worked on alternatives that provide our products with sustainable characteristics, recognizing the importance of nature and developing new sustainable consumption ways.
With optimism, we present our new tinplate containers (tin cans), made from steel, the world’s most recycled material. The World Steel Association reports that about 630 million tons are recovered annually, a figure that translates into recycling over 15 tons of steel per second, according to the Spanish company Monvaga, who are experts in metal structures.
According to data from Euromonitor International (2020), use of cans for coffee has increased over the last few years worldwide, primarily in regions such as the Middle East, at an 11.8% Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR); Asia-Pacific, at a 9.3% CAGR, and Latin America, at a 3.2% CAGR.
Between 2021 and 2024, growth of tin cans for soluble coffee is projected to almost double that of soluble coffee worldwide.
Similarly, the regions where this type of container for instant coffee is expected to grow the most from 2021 to 2024 will be the Middle East and Africa, at a 12% CAGR, followed by Asia-Pacific by 8.6%, Latin America by almost 3%, and Eastern Europe by 2.8%. Tin can is becoming established as one of the containers preferred for premium products, including coffee.
Characteristics of tinplate
Tinplate is a waterproof material composed of a steel sheet covered on both sides with tin, making the product more useful and unalterable.
Advantages of tin cans
* Resistance and durability
One of the most important advantages of tin can is resistance. Compared to other containers, it resists high compression, staying in good condition during long periods of time without affecting coffee.
* Design
The container has a premium appearance. Its shape and finishes allow for customizable designs that can work for innovations of your brand, special seasons or in-and-outs.
* Portability and safety
As an airtight, light container, it can be carried easily. It’s perfect for international transportation because of its reduced weight, and very useful for e-commerce compared to glass containers. It doesn’t break and prevents product waste. Tinplate protects from germs, air and oxygen, helping keep coffee in perfect condition during shipping and preserving the unique aroma of Buencafé coffee.
Circular economy
Circular economy seeks to imitate nature and close the cycle of matter, privileging the use of biodegradable materials that can return to nature or recyclables that do not cause environmental damages at the end of their lifecycle.
Biodegradable: Tinplate is one of the eco-friendliest materials, as steel breaks down into nontoxic materials that oxidize in the presence of water or air, returning to earth as iron ore and disappearing in a few years (Asenvases, 2018).
Recyclable
Tinplate containers can be recycled indefinitely, thus consuming less energy and raw materials and lowering CO2 emissions, according to documents published by the Board of Metallic Containers (Mesa de Envases Metálicos, 2019).
According to The Food Tech, steel packaging leads the ranking of recycled materials (69%), followed closely by glass (62%) and, quite behind, cardboard and plastics (32% and 20%, respectively).
Ecoacero (2021) says that each ton of steel recycled saves over 1.5 times its own weight in CO2 emissions and more than double its weight in raw materials, requiring 70% less energy than producing steel from virgin sources.
Tin cans join our packaging portfolio as part of our innovation commitment to our customers and care of our planet.
The world aims for a sustainable future and the coffee market is no exception: the world’s largest coffee brands have been launched and entered different markets with tin cans not only for roasted coffee but also for soluble coffee references.
Buencafé joins the growing trend of tin cans to offer innovations to our customers and keep up with consumers’ growing environmental awareness all around the world.
