Approaches from Two Potential Coffee Producers
Two world level coffee producing giants, Colombia and Brazil made an important exchange of technical knowledge over the past few days.
CEO of the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC), led by Roberto Vélez Vallejo, visited the Brazilian city of Ribeirão Preto, in the state of San Paulo. Vélez, FNC general manager, presented to the Brazilian National Council of Coffee on how the institution of Colombian coffee growers functions.
According to information released by the FNC, Vélez qualified the visit as “extremely successful” and invited his Brazilian colleagues to the First World Coffee Producers Forum to be held in Medellin in July where at least 500 representatives of coffee producing countries from Africa, Asia, Central America and the rest of Latin America will convene.
Vélez established the necessity, according to what the FNC detailed, of the coffee producing countries “uniting” so that the Forum’s agenda and the decisions made at the meeting “will have a greater impact on the global industry in terms of tackling the problems and challenges of coffee production together.”
The visit also generated a “technical exchange” of knowledge between the two biggest producers. There was conversation about the state of coffee cultivation and research that advances in both countries. At the meeting were representatives of Brazilian research entities like Embrapa, Pamig, Incaper, The Instituto Agronômico de Campinas, Fundación Procafé, P&A Marketing, and technicians from coffee cooperatives.
